Study Permit

Additional Information

A study permit allows you (foreign national) to study in Canada.  The education institute that you wish to study at must be a Designated Learning Institute (DLI).  Before you travel to Canada, you need to apply for a study permit.  In addition, you may need a temporary visa or ETA to come to Canada.  A study permit does not gain you entry into Canada - it is not a visa.


Eligibility requirements:

  • are enrolled at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • prove you have enough money to pay for your:  
    • tuition fees
    • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and
    • return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
  • obey the law, have no criminal record and get a police certificate (if required)
  • are in good health and get a medical exam (if required)
  • prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires


Processing time: Varies depending on the Country you are applying from.



Note: If you are resident of China, India, Philippines or Vietnam, you may be eligible to fast track your application through the Student Direct Stream.  Please contact us for more information. Approx processing time: 20 Calendar days.


Note: If you are planning to study in Canada for 6 months or less, you do not need a Study Permit.
