A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need in order to hire a foreign worker. It is a document from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that gives the employer permission to hire a temporary foreign worker. The employer must apply for and have an LMIA so that the foreign worker can apply for a work permit. Average processing time for an LMIA is approximately 2 months.
